Resin Encasing
Processes & Techniques
Our resin casting process begins with a conversation. We take time to understand your ideas and explore what’s possible so your project turns out just as you imagined. Whether you come to us with a maquette or a digital file, we can use advanced 3D scanning or modelling software to get things moving.
From there, we craft a master pattern, scaled and shaped to your needs. This becomes the basis for a silicone mould – the starting point for every cast.
There’s more than one way to cast a vision in resin. Depending on what you’re after, we might encapsulate objects, layer colours, or combine decorative elements. To ensure clarity and consistency, vacuum casting may be used to remove air bubbles, and pigments are blended carefully to create depth and vibrancy.
Once casting is complete, the finishing stage adds that final touch. You can choose from lacquering, polishing, metal spraying and more. Each stage – from scan to finish – is carried out with a clear goal: to bring your ideas to life with precision and personality.
High Quality Resin Casting
Quality matters – especially when details, finishes, and forms are non-negotiable. At Penta Pattern & Model, high-quality resin casting is not a buzzword; it’s our standard. We don’t cut corners. We use premium-grade polyurethane and epoxy resins, alongside materials like Jesmonite, to meet the demands of each specific project. Whether it’s a one-off art piece or a batch of complex components, we ensure dimensional accuracy and a crisp finish every time. Our team combines manual skill with cutting-edge technology, which means your resin castings are produced with care, precision, and reliability.
Benefits of Resin Castings
Resin casting offers several advantages that make it a favourite across multiple industries. It’s cost-effective for small production runs and easily captures intricate detail. The flexibility of materials means you can mimic anything from glass to stone to metal, without the associated weight or fragility. Add to that the ability to embed objects, apply a range of colours and textures, and choose from clear or opaque finishes – and it’s easy to see why resin is the material of choice for artists, designers, and product developers alike. It’s fast, versatile, and expressive.
Creative freedom
At Penta Pattern & Model, we pride ourselves on offering our clients full creative freedom throughout the resin casting process. Our knowledgeable team is flexible and works closely with you to achieve outstanding results. You are always welcome at our workshop and can even participate in the process, mixing colours and adding details to personalise your pieces.
Detail can be incorporated either before casting, by encapsulating elements within the resin, or after casting with our wide range of finishes.
We are continually developing innovative ways to encapsulate natural and waste products, creating captured moments and promoting sustainability by reducing and reusing waste materials.
Materials, pigments and paints
We offer a variety of materials, pigments, and paints to enhance your resin projects. These include, but are not limited to:
- Gold leaf
- Foils
- Paint
- Metallic shimmer powders
By topping these textures with optically clear resin, we can create stunning pieces of artwork. You can choose from translucent, pigmented, or opaque designs to suit your vision. The possibilities for different textures are endless. Simply contact us, and one of our experts will advise you and share a full sample list.
Resin Finishes
After the resin casting stage, you can select from a wide variety of finishes for your project, including:
- Polished and unpolished
- Lacquered
- Sprayed and metal-sprayed
- Deliberately added defects
Other finishes and textures are also achievable, so do not hesitate to contact us with your ideas. For further details on the available finishes, please visit our Materials and Finishes page.
