Defence & Military
CNC Machining

Defence programmes fail when parts do not fit, drawings are misread, or data is mishandled. Our military machining service is built for the UK MoD supply chain, Tier 1 primes, and critical subcontract packages that demand Right First Time delivery, total discretion, and repeatable precision.

Why Penta Patterns?

Working within the defence sector demands absolute Reliability, Precision and Discretion, and that is exactly what we deliver.

At Penta Patterns, we support manufacturers and contractors with advanced carbon fibre solutions, engineered for performance and built to meet strict project requirements.

From design engineering and CNC machining to carbon fibre lay-up and finishing, every stage happens in-house.

This ensures consistent quality, fewer delays and no reliance on outside suppliers.

We understand the pressures that come with defence contracts: security, confidentiality, accuracy and speed.

Many of our projects operate under non-disclosure agreements, so while we cannot share details, our track record speaks through repeat work and long-standing relationships.

Whether it is a prototype or a full production run, we handle each job with the same focus and responsibility.

Built for the Modern Defence Landscape

Today’s defence platforms combine complex geometries, multi-material assemblies, and tight integration tolerances. Procurement officers and lead engineers need defence machining that protects the schedule and eliminates rework.

We operate as a secure, responsive partner for engineering defence requirements, from prototype builds to controlled batch production, with in-house machining, composites, and finishing to reduce supply chain risk.

Military Design & Development

CAD Engineering

Component Design

We turn your requirements and CAD data into clear, buildable part designs. This helps avoid errors before machining starts, and it makes sure parts fit together as planned. We design with manufacture and inspection in mind from the start.

Tooling Design

We design tooling that holds parts in the right position during manufacture. This helps keep key sizes and faces consistent, and it reduces rework. We also design in simple reference points so parts are easier to check and sign off.

3D Scanning Services

Reverse Engineering

We capture the shape of an existing part and turn it into usable CAD data. This helps when drawings are missing, parts have changed over time, or you need to reproduce a component for repair or upgrade work. The result is a model you can use for design updates, tooling, or machining.

Inspection

We scan parts and compare them to CAD to check size, shape, and key features. This helps prove parts meet the required standard before they move to the next stage of build. It also highlights any issues early, reducing scrap and rework.

Scan Carbon Fibre

We scan carbon fibre parts and tools to check shape and surface accuracy. This helps confirm layup and cure have not caused movement or distortion, and it supports reliable trimming and assembly. The scan data can also be used to update CAD where needed.

3D Rendering Services

Renders of Reverse Engineered Parts

We create clear, lifelike 3D renders from scan based CAD models. This helps teams review shape and key details without handling the physical part, and it supports faster design sign off. Renders can also be used in project packs and technical reviews.

CAD Data or Original Data

We can produce renders from your CAD files or from data we create in house from scanning. This keeps everything consistent, even when original drawings are limited or out of date. The result is a clean visual that matches the latest geometry.

Rescaling Services

Test Pieces / Product Optimisation

We produce test pieces so you can check fit, function, and build method before committing to full manufacture. This helps prove key features, reduce risk, and avoid costly rework later. It is a practical step when tolerances and interfaces must be right first time.

Scaling Up or Down

We adjust CAD data to scale parts up or down to meet your size, weight, or build constraints. This supports development work, trials, and tooling changes without starting from scratch. We also keep key reference points consistent so the scaled part is still easy to machine, check, and assemble.

Technical Drawing Services

Line Drawing Creation

We produce clear technical line drawings from CAD or scan data. This helps teams confirm key sizes, hole positions, and interface details without relying on 3D files alone. Drawings can be used for review, manufacture, and inspection.

Turn-Key Production

5-Axis CNC Machining

Precision Metallics

We machine metal parts on 5-axis CNC to hold tight tolerances and keep complex faces aligned. This reduces setups, improves accuracy between features, and supports repeatable builds. It is well suited when parts must fit first time and pass inspection.

Polyurethane and Epoxy Model Board

We machine model board for accurate patterns, tooling masters, and form models. This gives a stable, clean surface that is quick to machine and easy to finish. It is ideal for trial builds and tooling development where fast changes are expected.

Composite

We 5-axis machine composite parts and composite tooling with controlled edge quality and accurate trim lines. This helps maintain fit between bonded or bolted assemblies and reduces hand finishing time. It also supports consistent results across multiple builds.

PolyJet 3D Printing

Jigs and Fixtures

We 3D print jigs and fixtures for rapid prototyping and low volume build support. This helps position parts consistently during trimming, drilling, bonding, and inspection. It also reduces lead time compared to machined tooling for early-stage programmes.

Mock-ups

We produce printed mock-ups for fit checks, layout reviews, and assembly planning. This helps teams confirm access, clearances, and interface points before committing to metal or composite manufacture. It is a fast way to reduce change requests later.

Infinite Colours and Multiple Properties

We can print in a wide colour range and combine different material properties in one build. This helps mark features clearly, separate zones, and simulate different stiffness or feel where needed for review. It supports clearer communication between engineering, manufacturing, and inspection.

Carbon Fibre and Fibreglass

Pre-preg High, Mid, Low Temperature Materials

We work with pre-preg materials across a range of cure temperatures to suit the part requirement and build process. This helps control shape, surface quality, and repeatability, especially where parts must fit accurately during assembly. Material choice is matched to the expected service environment and inspection needs.

Various Resin Systems for Carbon Fibre and Fibreglass

We select resin systems to suit the build method, whether pre-preg or wet layup, and the performance required. This helps control strength, stiffness, and surface finish, while keeping the process stable from one build to the next. The aim is consistent parts that are easier to trim, bond, and inspect.

Resin / Silicone Casting Services

Resin (Lens, Potting, Electrical)

We cast resin parts for rapid prototypes and small batch production where you need clean detail and consistent results. This supports protective potting, electrical encapsulation, and optical style forms without committing to hard tooling. It is a practical route for early stage trials and fit checks.

Silicone (Gaskets, Seals)

We cast silicone parts for gaskets and seals where flexibility and repeatable fit are critical. This helps prove sealing faces, compression behaviour, and assembly fit before moving into higher volume methods. It also supports short lead times for development and replacement parts.

Composite Components / Tooling

Structural

We manufacture structural composite components where stiffness, weight, and repeatable fit are key. Our build process focuses on controlled layup, accurate trimming, and stable interfaces for assembly. This supports reliable performance and easier inspection.

Body Work

We produce composite bodywork and outer panels with controlled surface quality and consistent geometry. This helps maintain panel gaps, alignment, and mounting points across builds. It also reduces hand finishing time during assembly.

Aerospace Tooling

We manufacture composite tooling for programmes that demand tight control of shape and surface finish. Tooling is built to hold datum locations, maintain stability through cure, and support repeatable part production. This reduces variation and improves first time fit.

Defence

We support defence manufacturing with composite components and tooling built for repeatable fit and controlled build quality. Our approach reduces variation between parts, supports stable interfaces for assembly, and makes inspection more straightforward. This helps programmes move from development builds to consistent production with fewer changes.

Structural Rohacell & Nomex Cores

We build sandwich structures using Rohacell and Nomex cores to add stiffness without adding excessive weight. Core choice and placement helps control strength, local reinforcement, and overall part stability. This also supports predictable trimming, bonding, and assembly.

Metal Casting Services

Cast Metal Services

We produce patterns and source castings which are then machined in house to produce final components in a range of different metals. From patterns through to final cast supply, we help keep geometry accurate so parts fit cleanly during assembly and installation.

Machined / Non-Machined

We can supply castings in a range of metals for legacy components and heritage projects, either as-cast or with machining where flat faces, hole positions, or interfaces must be controlled. This supports clean joints, consistent mounting points, and reliable alignment between sections. Materials can be selected to suit the environment and the required appearance.

Drape Forming

Reverse Engineer Obsolete Vehicle Windows

We can lasar or photogrammetry scan whole or damaged windows. We can then reverse engineer this data into CAD data. From this, we then use this data to create drape form tooling that we use to create polycarbonate or acrylic windows.

Finishes

Materials and Finishes

Pre-preg Carbon Fibre

We use pre-preg carbon fibre where high stiffness, low weight, and repeatable layup are required. It supports consistent parts with clean interfaces and controlled trim lines.

Pre-preg Glass Fibre

We use pre-preg glass fibre for durable composite parts where stability and surface quality matter. It is a strong option for panels, covers, and tooling where carbon is not required.

Epoxy Model Board

We machine epoxy model board for stable patterns, masters, and tooling forms. It holds detail well and gives a clean surface that is easy to finish.

Polyurethane Model Board

We machine polyurethane model board for fast turnaround models and tooling development. It is easy to cut, easy to modify, and suited to short lead time programmes.

Resins

We use resin systems selected to suit the process and the required finish. This helps control strength, surface quality, and repeatable results from one build to the next.

Nomex (Alicore)

We use Nomex honeycomb cores to increase stiffness without adding much weight. This supports stable panels and sandwich structures with predictable bonding.

Rohacell

We use Rohacell foam core to add stiffness and improve part stability. It is well suited where accurate shape and clean edges are important.

Spray Painting

We apply spray finishes to achieve consistent colour, protection, and a controlled surface appearance. This supports both cosmetic finish and handling protection during assembly.

Metal Finishing

We support metal finishing to improve appearance and durability where required. Finishes can also help with corrosion protection and consistent presentation across parts.
